The Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) was officially adopted by Rotary International in 1971, and is one of the most significant and fastest-growing programs of Rotary service.
Rotary District 5170 sponsors a five-day leadership experience designed to bring out the leader in
everyone. Each year, thousands of young people take part in the RYLA program worldwide.
High school students finishing their junior year are chosen for their leadership potential. Rotary clubs select participants and facilitate the event’s curriculum. RYLA teaches participants appropriate ethics skills, starting with the fundamentals of Rotary’s “Four-Way Test”:
Of the things we think, say or do:
RYLA Participants: Many, but not all, of the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista sponsored students are a part of the Anzar High School Interact Club. Two (2) students receive scholarships to a week-long leadership camp where they learn skills about how to become better leaders, build better friendships, and how to actively apply what they have learned at camp to their lives, at school, and in our community.
RYLA Staff: Most of the counselors are former campers, who are typically in college working toward a career goal. The counselors and staff are truly dedicated to RYLA and aspire to become future Rotarians. All of the staff are volunteers and spend a week of their vacation time because they love and believe in this program. Their passion shows to campers the value of what Rotary brings to our communities and the world.
