For approximately 18 years the Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista has allocated funding for the distribution of dictionaries for all third grade children at the Aromas and San Juan schools in the Aromas-San Juan Unified School District.
Despite our technology-age, the schools' teachers continue to report that their third grade children want and need a dictionary as a reference. The teaching of dictionary skills can be applied to many important reading and writing skills, often transferred to working on computer programs and the Internet.
The Rotary Club of San Juan Bautista Dictionary Distribution Event is definitely a joy to our Rotarians; giving each volunteering Rotarian a chance to be with children and witnessing a child's exploration of a new book and in numerous cases a child's only book to take home.
